What Is Breast Implant Revision?

Breast implant revision is a procedure designed for patients who have already had breast augmentation. It helps patients who are either dissatisfied with their previous surgery or who would like to make alterations to their look. Dr. Brown fully tailors each breast implant revision procedure to help his patients reach their desired outcomes. This could be either replacing damaged implants, changing out implants for larger or smaller ones, revising placement, or more.

Because there are so many factors in play with breast implant revision, it is vital to find a surgeon who has a proven track record. Not only will your surgeon need to correct previous results, but they must be able to deliver new results that match your expectations. Dr. Brown works closely with his patients to discover precisely what they are looking for, and then builds your treatment plan.

Is Breast Implant Revision Right for Me?

If you have trouble with current implants or are dissatisfied with your results, then breast implant revision could be right for you. Patients can have a wide range of reasons for seeking revision surgery, including:

  • Desiring to change implant size (larger or smaller)
  • Replace a damaged implant
  • Change out the type of implant (for example, change saline for gummy bear implants)
  • Correct the position of shifting implants
  • And more

During your consultation, you can discuss your expectations with Dr. Brown and get started on building a fully-tailored revision plan. Every step of the way, you are in full control of your revision. Additionally, similar to breast augmentation, there are a few standards for the ideal candidate for breast implant revision. These include:

  • Being in overall good health
  • Avoiding smoking before and after the procedure
  • Have healthy expectations for revision results

What Is the Recovery Like?

The recovery process for breast implant revision will be similar to your first breast augmentation procedure. Patients can expect some pain and swelling, but this will gradually go away as they continue to recover. Additionally, you may receive medication and compresses to keep you comfortable and ensure your healing continues smoothly.

However, the downtime and overall recovery timeline can vary slightly, depending on the type of revision you had. Most patients take about two weeks off from work and their daily routines to recover properly. Patients will also need to avoid physical activity for several weeks, giving their bodies time to rest and heal. After about three weeks, you can resume more vigorous activity with Dr. Brown’s approval.

Throughout your recovery, you will have several post-op follow-ups for Dr. Brown to check your progress. During these visits, he can let you know how your recovery is going and when you can return to your daily activities and exercise. We welcome patients to ask any questions or concerns during their recovery progress, and gladly provide complete information and guidance. Don’t hesitate to call at any point in your recovery process for more information.

When Can I See Results?

While some results will be evident almost immediately, it does take time for your final results to be apparent. This timeline can vary, depending on if you had more drastic changes or minor changes. In general, patients can see final results several months after their procedure once the swelling has gone done. If you have received new implants, it can also take several months for the new implants to settle into their final position. The best way to ensure you see optimal results quickly is to follow all of Dr. Brown’s recovery instructions carefully.
